The origins

“I see the world as a perspective grid of dark matters combined with infinitive lightness. I’m not sending or projecting any positive vibes nor wish anything immaculately evil to anyone, just honest reactions and correspondingly relevant looks of faces on people while viewing at my artwork. I like to consider myself as a humble persona, yet eccentric and hard worker and hopefully can make an impression and strong impact to my viewers.”

I was born in 1979 in the city of Hyvinkää, Southern Finland. As a child, I spent countless hours illustrating my own comic books, writing novels, designing covers for cassette tapes (remember those?), shooting short films with a VHS camcorder (and those…?), drafting so-called movie scripts, and covering my schoolbooks with sketches. Inspired by ’80s movie posters—especially from the horror genre—I developed a strong passion for visual storytelling and have always viewed the world through a creative lens.

I eventually turned that passion into a career as a graphic design entrepreneur and a visual communications teacher. As a designer, I’ve had the privilege of working with clients and exciting projects worldwide—especially in the music industry. Being a devoted heavy metal fan, I’ve had the pleasure of creating countless metal logos and album covers for satisfied bands and musicians. Throughout my career, I’ve also worked extensively with brand identities, print and web design, photography, and video production. Additionally, I’ve been involved in journalistic work across various media platforms.

My journey as a visual communications teacher began in 2001. I hold a Master’s Degree in Culture and Arts and a qualification as a Professional Special Needs Teacher.

Work 72, Pete Alander

Behind the art

At some point in my life, I realized I had an extensive collection of stored artwork. It was time to bring it into the public eye and fully embrace my career as an artist—alongside everything else I do. No rest for the wicked…

I’ve always been drawn to abstract and expressionist art, as well as movements like Art Deco, Dadaism, and De Stijl. My work is a fusion of these influences, often taking the form of a square—an homage to the LP and CD covers I deeply admire. The abstract elements in my art manifest as geometric visual punchlines: triangles, elliptical shapes, and swirling forms. In essence, there’s a lot happening beneath the surface.

From a technical standpoint, my pieces are intricate digital compositions, sometimes built from hundreds of layered images. These works are created and refined digitally, then printed onto aluminum plates using UV technology—giving them a striking, tangible presence.

My creative process is deeply intuitive. A single piece can take years to complete, as I revisit and refine it over time. When it’s finished, I know it instinctively—I feel it in my gut. There’s no structured method to this kind of art. You simply follow the flow.

Science, b*tches.

As I grew older (and hopefully wiser…), I came to a harsh realization: the world we live in is often far from a good place. Wars, diseases, disinformation, conspiracy theories, climate change (and its denial), religious dogma, intolerance, racism, poverty, and the oppression of minorities—just to name a few—make life increasingly difficult, especially for future generations. As a parent, I felt the need to take a stand.

The key to human survival (and let’s not forget the animals) and to maintaining a morally sound evolution is simple: we must abandon belief in magical beings and superstitions and take full responsibility for our actions. Science, logic, and reason should guide us—not ancient fairy tales written by illiterate men in the Bronze Age. Our focus should be on protecting this planet and securing our future, not justifying harmful actions through religious delusions.

Yes, when it comes to religion, I’m unapologetically hardcore. There are no gods. This is your one and only life—so live it. Do good, not out of fear of hell or the promise of heaven, but simply because it feels right. Morality isn’t handed down by a deity; it’s hardwired into us from birth. And yes—we are all born atheists.

Secularism

I encourage people to be more open about their secular lives and to stand proudly for humanist values beyond religion. Organized religions are rotten, hypocritical ideologies (well, except for Pastafarianism… they’re cool) built on double standards and outdated dogma. We are all born atheists—until indoctrination by the deluded takes hold. When religion fades, real progress can begin.

Through my art, I hope to make a difference—however small—in shifting perspectives. That’s how the seculARTism project was born: a way to do good without religion. We don’t need celestial surveillance cameras watching our every move to act with kindness and integrity.

Eating babies and stuff

I have been working as a teacher of design and visual communications since 2001, and I firmly believe in the power of education. Education should be free, self-evident, and accessible to every single human being on this planet. Where there is education, there is wisdom. Where there is wisdom, there is humanism—and with humanism comes less ignorance.

The COVID pandemic and current wars has exposed just how vulnerable we are—not only to viruses but also to disinformation, lies, and fake news, which spread faster and further than we ever imagined. We’ve seen the rise of QAnon, anti-vaxxers, LGBTQ+ hate, and internet trolls spreading dangerous nonsense—and, disturbingly, finding eager audiences. Now more than ever, we must rely on fact-checked information rooted in science and research instead of delusional fantasies. When it comes to proven facts, your feelings don’t matter.

If you’re curious to dive deeper into my thoughts and ideology, check out my interviews in Helsingin Sanomat and Vapaa Ajattelija, the magazine of the Finnish Freethinkers (both in Finnish).

I consider myself an atheist, a modern humanist—and, if you like, a Satanist. I might look intimidating, but I don’t eat babies. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t even taste that great.
